Bones of the Hands and Feet

There are eight bones in each wrist. In each hand there are five metacarpals, five proximal phalanges, four intermediate (or medial) phalanges (none in the thumb) and five distal phalanges. Total: 8 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 5 = 27.

The foot is similar, except that there are only seven bones in each ankle (and instead of metacarpals there are metatarsals). Total: 7 + 5 + 5 + 4 + 5 = 26.

Grand total: (27 + 26) x 2 = 106.
